Our trainers foster and board the dogs in their homes while they are trained on basic obedience skills. The program is typically 2-3 weeks long depending on the dog and their needs.
Basic Obedience Covered:
Beyond basic obedience training the dogs also learn how to have household manners and boundaries. Not all dogs require everything but some other tasks the dogs are asked to perform and work on are things such as;
Our dogs are fostered through Saving with Soul Pet Rescue of NW Florida and come fully vaccinated, on preventatives, microchipped and spayed/neutered.
Includes training collar, leash/collar, bandana, and pet tag!
Many of our program dogs began as shelter dogs. IPC works with Saving with Soul on pulling dogs from the shelter in order to free up kennel space. This allows the shelter to take on more dogs and get dogs off the streets and into a safe environment. Beyond shelter dogs we also take dogs into the program that have been owner surrendered or need saved due to being in a tough living condition. Throughout the program we see these dogs transform, by the end you would never guess that they used to be a shelter dog.
We have partnered with a great local rescue to offer the help of professional training! The dogs we aim to take are generally the problem case dogs that demonstrate behavior issues which in turn makes them unadaptable or unmanageable. Many of our program dogs came to us from death row. This is their dogs last chance at finding a home and learning how to be a desirable pet.
Our IPC trainers are the ones that foster the program dogs. Their experience and skills have helped even the tougher cases of dogs. We have had a few dogs with severe issues and they have needed more than just the typical 2-3 week training course. Some dogs have real issues that need total rehabilitation. Thanks to the professional training the dogs receive while in the program we have had great success with their progress and many sit comfortably in their forever homes.
We are proud to say we have helped 80 dogs AND COUNTING, find their families through fostering, patience, love and training!
We are working with shelter dogs, some of which have been returned, surrendered, and many of which were on the euthanasia list. These dogs likely came to us as good candidates for the program due to needing training in some way or another and even fixing some of their “baggage” problems.
These dogs are not and will never be perfect, dogs are NOT robots. Even with training you will never change a dog's personality and many long time quirks will not dissolve. Many things can be maintained and managed but we are generally working with older dogs that have been in set ways for the majority of their lives. Basic obedience is to enhance their lives and although it does and we do work on troubling behaviors some of these behaviors will always be present despite how much training a dog has received. Dogs are not humans and shouldn't be treated as such, they are dogs. We must have adopters that understand these quirks and are willing to love them and work with them regardless.
We offer two follow up lessons for any questions, concerns or to simply just work with us on some additional training. We will not hunt you down in order to schedule your follow up lessons as we live busy lives with many dogs and clients, it is your responsibility to contact us and get your follow ups scheduled. The two free follow up sessions do expire, they are only good for 6 months after the adoption and it is your responsibility to use them.
We ask that our adopters contact us if they are needing to return the dog. Dogs cannot be rehomed or returned elsewhere as per our contract and although it is required to return the dog back to us if the dog can no longer be kept in your home, it is mandatory that you use the two follow up lessons prior to surrendering.
This ones for you!
Let's teach you right from the start how to solve any problem behaviors that may arise!
